outsourcing libraries and union breaking

Since Jackson County, Oregon lost library operation funding in April its libraries (many new) have had to close their doors. Now they will reopen in a few weeks with a new boss LSSI (Library Systems and Services). The county will still own the libraries, the property, and the books. LSSI will be in charge of hiring staffing and buying books. They plan to run the libraries on about half the budget, fewer employees (hence librarians are interviewing for their old jobs), lower wages and less benefits (no more union), and be open about half the number of hours.

Don't take my word for it. Read the article. How does it make you feel?
